In that article, Linus said he got burned by his distro updating him to 4.0. I have to admit that it’s really hard to stay positive about the efforts of downstreams when they wander around feeling they should be above reproach while simultaneously hurting our (theirs and ours) users in a rush to be more bad ass bleeding edge than any other cool dude distro in town. I hope this time instead of handing out spankings, the distros can sit back and think about things and try and figure out how they played an unfortunate part in the 4.0 fiasco.

The challenge for us as citizens is to stop them from setting the rules. Keeping supercapitalism from spilling over into democracy is the only constructive agenda for change. All else, as I shall make clear, is frolic and detour.

Superstar Syndrome for Apple and Ubuntu
A very interesting what if analysis… Me thinks the main difference between Jobs and Shuttleworth (in the Apple and Ubuntu context, for sure) the 10 mega bucks Mark has brought to Ubuntu. I agree, they are both very visionary, wise and clever, nevertheless I think without Shuttlworth Ubuntu will be affected financially as much as from a leadership perspective, if not more. Sure, there is the Foundation and such, but…
